Live From New York, It's The Barneys Holiday Window Display!

By Amanda Ernst on Oct 13, 2009 05:00 PM

Now here's a holiday window display we can get behind.

After reliving the 1960's last year with his "Peace & Love: Have a Hippie Holiday" theme, Barneys New York's creative director Simon Doonan has cooked up a plan to commemorate timeless New York City-based sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" and its 35th anniversary in the department store's holiday windows this year.

We got a peek at some of Doonan's sketches of the windows, which will debut on November 19. The windows will include tributes to famous "SNL" sketches like the Coneheads, Chris Kattan's Mango and Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.

"From Roseanne Roseannadanna to The Church Lady to Weekend Update there is an unlimited amount of brilliant material," Doonan said. "I have always wanted to pay tribute to the genius heritage of 'SNL.'"

Even "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels agrees the windows will be exciting. "The Barneys Holiday windows are a great New York tradition and I am very excited that 'SNL' is going to be the focus of this year̢۪s celebration," he said.

Welcome to EXTREME FASHION WINDOW DESIGN

At first glance...

Window shopping is a competitive and beyond creative force here and some stores bring it every few weeks. They may entice us to shop the featured designers for the latest looks, or just stare in amazement.

Currently, these images are compiling in our files daily to show the entire world the beauty of NYC’s Extreme Fashion Window Design. (Key word: EXTREME!)
Well dressed windows can quickly stop the passer-bys, the wandering tourists, fashionistas, avid-die-hard shoppers (like myself), photographers, and the "extremes" many even stop traffic, everyday. From these "traffic stoppers" that I rush to on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis at Bergdorf Goodman to Barney's, to Bloomingdales and the tons of smaller boutiques in the MePa District, Lower East Side, West Village, etc.--we roam the city to feature only the BEST of the best.

THE INFO: WHO are we? "WE" are a dedicated group of savvy "window chasers," semi-pro and amateur photographers, shoppers, artists, fashion people and writers under direction of artist, stylist and personal shopper Leann Marie Zafuto, and author of this creation.

WHAT are we doing? This brilliant book, of course! The theme/mission: Showcasing EXTREME windows from the passer-bys and professionals point of view capturing the glitter, grit, fashion and frolic of New York City."

WHERE: All over Manhattan...

WHEN: Soon! It's already trademarked and set for publishing in Spring/Summer 2010.

WHY: A dedicated love and appreciation for these brilliant windows throughout our fine city...soon for the world to view, just like they were in the heart of it.

MORE: "Be a part of it, feel the heart of it...New York, New York..."
Lots more info and details are on the way including how you can be a part of this. If you want to know now, email me at leannzafuto@gmail.com
